Welcome to Provocative Church

As you browse, read and share the many articles, our hope is that you may find this site an encouragement to your faith and Christian life.

We were created to worship. And we are to worship God with every aspect and area of our lives - presenting our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God.

The Church

The bride of Christ can often times be difficult and messy - but it is Christ's beautiful mess - to which He is the head and chief cornerstone.

Ancient Future

Our faith comes out from a rich heritage and history. It was during the formative years of our faith that creeds, confessions, traditions, and liturgies were developed. These practices and traditions recaptured will not only anchor us but move us forward in our faith.

There is freedom in the gospel as it proclaims that in Christ we are sons and daughters of the King. The importance is learning to preach those truths to our heart and life everyday.

Are You King Over Your Life?

Since the paper tray cover from the local fast food restaurant says it, then it must be TRUE?!

There is nothing new under the sun.  The old lies, keep getting repeated but just packaged a little differently.  Sure, it could be said that the statement above is merely a clever marketing gimmick to simply highlight their brand.  But although that may be true on one level, on a deeper level those sentiments are part of our collective heart's desire - that go back to the beginning.  The desire to be the "almighty ruler" is as old as the garden - when the serpent schemed and said, God doesn't love you, in fact He is withholding from you the very means in which you could be just like Him - you too can be God.  Believing and acting upon that lie has led us down the path of alienation, frustration and condemnation.

Fundamentally, believing that we are the Lord over our lives, is really our desire to worship control.  Control and power are our idols.  They are the things that we desire at all cost, the things that have captured our heart and affection.  I think Tim Keller says it best in his book, Counterfeit God - "What is an idol?  It is anything more important to you than God, anything that absorbs your heart and imagination more than God, anything you seek to give you what only God can give."

When we put our trust in ourselves and the ability to control - it will lead to disappointment and frustration - because the idea that we can have control is merely an illusion.
