Say What?!

"The church's fixation on the death of Jesus as the universal saving act must end, and the place of the cross must be reimagined in Christian faith. Why? Because of the cult of suffering and the vindictive God behind it."
-Alan Jones, from his book Reimagining Christianity.
I think the book should be more aptly called - Christianity, No More - because without the cross there is no redemption. Hebrews 9:22-"In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness."

Thanks for countering this quote! Wasn't sure where you were going with it at first but the cross is and to me, should always be central. It can be thought of as punitive or an act of love.
Where exactly do we reimagine it to?
